As a casual investor, I never really consider foreign markets. Why? I’m not sure really, but I guess I have always just perceived risk in overseas investments. It appears that my thoughts have hurt me. According to an article I just picked up, the EU has seen a rise in stock prices that are more than twice that of the U.S. in the last 5 years I had no idea to be quite frank. Here’s a piece of it:
EU share prices grow by twice the rate of US share prices. Since 2003 the average growth in EU share prices compares favourably with other major global financial markets where traders invest in an open market. In the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 51%, under half the growth rate recorded among EU stock market indices (118%). The EU also outperformed the Australian All Ordinaries Index (90%) and the Japanese Nikkei 225 index (77%). However, the Hang Seng share index in Hong Kong (195%) experienced stronger gains.
It lookes like I seriously need to start thinking about the EU as a place to invest. How about you? Are you invested in overseas stocks?
